Hang one over the side and watch the smelt, mackerel, and anchovies show up — or chum the kelp and bring the bass out.
What It Is
When tuna gets processed, the bloodline — the dark, iron-rich strip that runs down the loin — gets trimmed away. Most operations toss it. We grind it down, pack it into tubes, and freeze it solid. The result is a slow-melting, oil-heavy scent bomb that pulls bait to your boat and pulls bugs and crab into your pots.
No fillers, no mystery mash. Just the strongest-smelling part of the tuna, repurposed instead of thrown out.
How To Use

Tie it off the rail where you've marked bait, or set it against the kelp line to draw out bass and other kelp fish. For bugs and crab, zip one inside your pot's bait cage.
As the tube thaws it bleeds a steady oil-and-scent trail. Bait balls up on it fast — drop your sabikis and fill the tank.

“These things work fantastic! Used one at the north Mission Bay jetty this morning. Bait making has been slow. We drove around a little bit, found a small ball of bait, put one of these bait bombs in a chum bag and in about five minutes had a ball of smelt and mackerel on us. Made about 15 pieces of bait in 20 minutes or so and we're on our way with some big bait to complement our anchovies this morning. Highly recommend!”
FAQ
Ground tuna bloodline — the dark meat trimmed off during processing. That's it. It's the oiliest, strongest-scented part of the fish, which is exactly what you want in the water and exactly what you don't want on your dinner plate. Not for human consumption.

Baitfish first — smelt, mackerel, anchovies ball up on the scent trail fast. In pots and hoop nets, the oily bloodline is a proven draw for lobster and crab. And it's not just for bait: chum the kelp with one and calico bass and other kelp fish come out to feed.
A 1.5 lb bomb lasts about 25 minutes in 75° water — and the colder the water, the longer it lasts. It bleeds scent the whole time it thaws, which is plenty for a solid bait-making session, and in a pot it keeps working through the soak.
Keep them frozen until you head out. A small cooler gets them to the ramp rock solid. Refreezing a partly thawed tube is fine — it's bait, not sushi.
